Omahawk's Scout Quest Demo 2010

Emails from Mikey Furrow Omahawks'

ScoutQuest Coordinator & Field Chairman 2010

       Hello again;

       I have some more updates concerning this wonderful opportunity coming up next weekend at ScoutQuest:

       Next Saturday, October 9th 2010, down at Mahoney State Park, we have the opportunity to show off our planes and interests to hundreds of young scouts who could all become potential RC pilots in the future. ScoutQuest 2010 is a great opportunity to display our planes, answer questions, and of course, fly our planes for the amazement of the scouts.

       We have an area set aside for us to use as a landing strip, as well as display our planes, and also answer questions. We will need to be set up by 9am and will be there all day until about 5pm, and can fly all day long if you so desire.

       I am asking for anyone who has even 2-3 hours available next Saturday to come out, have a good time, and speak with the scouts, show off some planes, and even do some flying. We are able to fly electrics, gas, and glow powered planes, as well as any helicopters available. The more planes to demo and display, the merrier. I’m also hoping to have a couple helicopter pilots available for some demo flights as well.

       If you are able to attend, please let me know ASAP with the times your available, what planes your bringing, or whatever assistance you can offer so that I can coordinate "vendor" passes, transportation, vehicles, etc. and also ensure that we have enough people to cover throughout the day. If you are able to stay the entire day, that would be very much appreciated, but even 2-3 hours will be a great benefit to introduce our hobby to the scouting community.  I have attached 2 s of where we will be as well as an overview of the entire area.

       Please forward this on to those whom I might have missed, or who might be interested in assisting with this wonderful opportunity. More updates will be sent as I get more info from those who would like to attend.

       I highly encourage any Omahawk to help  with this event.

I got the opportunity to work and play at ScoutQwest some years ago.

I was on the crew that ran the video screens for the concert and got to fly in the demo for the Omahawks during the day.

       You will not find a more enthusiastic audience!

I was video director for the bands playing down the hill from the RC demo.  Weird Al Yankovic was the headliner and I was the video director.

He was quite amused during sound check when almost a thousand scouts went running away from the stage area and up the hill to the RC demo that had just begun.

"Upstaged by RC Airplanes?" was the comment heard from his road crew.

 It was really amusing and told me allot about where the future of RC lies.

       Of course,  later a band comprised of teenage girls rehearsed and a

lot of the boys came back to the stage area.....   We all know how

that goes.

       Later in the day,  I got to fly in the demo myself and was really impressed with the enthusiasm and the questions the boys had about our hobby.  I have no doubt that the seeds the Omahawks planted that day created some new aviation enthusiasts and future modelers.

       I am unable to attend this year.  I highly encourage anyone that is able to do so!

        Hello my fellow RC Pilots;

        As some of you may know, I am taking the lead with getting this all

 set up,  and I am looking for several pilots who would be willing to do some

 demo flights with their planes, and help man the booth that we have

 and provide information, answer questions, and generally help

 encourage these scouts  to  consider our hobby.

        We are needing people to man the booth from 8am - 5pm, and this can be

 worked in shifts. If you are able to help out with this event, please

 let me  know what times you are available to assist, and what you would like

 to do to help out, whether it be with intro flights; demo flights;

 answering questions, or just hanging out.

        Thank you in advance for any assistance with this and looking for a

 good turnout.

New Details

       Hello Guys;

       Here are the final updates that I have in regards to the Scout Quest adventure expo. The plan as it stands is that when you arrive down at Mahoney State Park, at the gate, let them know that you are with the Omahawks RC Club and they will direct you up to the parking area. Upon arriving at the parking area, call my cell @ 402-496-6037 to let me know you're there and I will get a golf cart sent to you to bring your stuff up to our flying area.

       If you're planning on eating at the event, there are vendors available to provide food for you, or you're welcome to bring you're own. I have attached a menu of available vendors who will be there so you can get an idea of what's available. We will have some soda and water with us at the flying area. Also, if you happen to have any allergies to horses or hay /wheat, bring some allergy meds just in case......

       If you have any questions, please either give me a call or send me an email. I will do what I can to answer your questions the best I can.

      Thanks again for your willingness to come out and have a good time with the Scouts.

      I publish Metro Area R/C Flying to make a central web site for all the area R/C clubs, not to replace individual club sites, but to tie all of them together and promote growth and interaction between clubs. The most important service of the web site is to post the Metro Area Schedule. The schedule lists all the events for all the clubs in one location so that R/C flyers can see what events are available in the area and plan ahead. I believe it will also help the area clubs to work out their schedules so that a club event, will not conflict, with another club's event. The next most important service is to provide a Page that has maps to all the events, meetings, dinners and parties. Right after that comes the Newsletter Page which lists club newsletters. Reading other club newsletters lets members see what others are offering in the area that they are interested in and promotes interaction between clubs.  This is your web site, if you would like to show-off your newest plane, or share an experience, you can E-Mail pictures and articles to me at: MetroRCFlying@Gmail.com  There’s an Email Link on every page.
