Charging Boards

 Hi Keith,

Good work on the websites, that's really nice of you to put those together.  The website with the parallel charge boards is epbuddy.com.

They also have a good line of lipo batteries many people are using.

In case you have an interest they carry the charger I was using the cellpro 6 which is capable of 40amp charges.  So it could do six pattern packs at once in about 35 minutes.  They also have the cellpro 8 which can do up to 8s packs at 40amp.  Feathermerchantrc.com is the maker of the 47 amp 24v power supply I was using.

Things to remember when parallel charging:

Only connect lipos of the SAME cell number and SIMILAR capacity.

Only connect lipos of similar resting pack voltage i.e. connecting lipos which have been flown but vary slightly in ending voltage is OK, but connecting a fully charged lipo and a depleted lipo will cause a huge amp burst as the cells equalize which can damage the lipos.

Always connect lipos to the board by their main leads and let them equalize voltage for about 30 seconds before connecting the balance leads.  This ensures the equalization between battery voltage takes place through the higher capacity main leads and not the low capacity balance leads.

The charge rate is simply the total amps/total mah capacity.  E.g. a

20 amp charge going into four 5s 5000mah lipos is 5 amps per lipo for a 1 c charge.  This charge would be equivalent to charging a 20,000 mah 5s pack at 20 amps

Any lipo charger will work with a parallel board.  Some chargers have a parallel setting, but it is not needed.  Without the parallel setting the charger will just think it is charging a larger capacity lipo.

You may need a balance adapter to connect the parallel board to your brand of charger.  Shoot ep buddy an email and I'm sure they can recommend the right adapter.

       Hope this is useful,

I publish Metro Area R/C Flying to make a central web site for all the area R/C clubs, not to replace individual club sites, but to tie all of them together and promote growth and interaction between clubs. The most important service of the web site is to post the Metro Area Schedule. The schedule lists all the events for all the clubs in one location so that R/C flyers can see what events are available in the area and plan ahead. I believe it will also help the area clubs to work out their schedules so that a club event, will not conflict, with another club's event. The next most important service is to provide a Page that has maps to all the events, meetings, dinners and parties. Right after that comes the Newsletter Page which lists club newsletters. Reading other club newsletters lets members see what others are offering in the area that they are interested in and promotes interaction between clubs.  This is your web site, if you would like to show-off your newest plane, or share an experience, you can E-Mail pictures and articles to me at: MetroRCFlying@Gmail.com  There’s an Email Link on every page.
